bio with rowdy
I am originally from Fort Worth, Texas but now live in the beautiful Arizona desert. Growing up and living in the wide open spaces of the Southwest has given me the love of nature that so greatly influences my artwork. My oil paintings and sketches explore the relationship between nature and man. I am very interested in dissecting the idea of "home" and the impact it has not only on us but the flora and fauna that surround us. My grandmother's kitchen wallpaper is the epitome of domesticity. The repeating patterns and bright colors that I remember so well as a child inspire the backgrounds of my artwork. I pull my main characters from the seemingly endless variety of avian species. Limiting both my subject matter and the environment in which it is placed, allows me to explore the creative possibilities of juxtaposing two seemingly different things. My compositions are uncomplicated so the viewer can focus on the relationship between the subject and its setting. With each piece of artwork, I develop an understanding of this union. It is my hope that my work will inspire the viewer to contemplate his or her own relationship with their environment.
